Abstract: | Life transitions categorize different changes, which may eventually affect one’s own life satisfaction. The purpose of this story-telling qualitative study is to understand the life satisfaction and subjective well-being of middle-aged men in Macao who are aged between 40 and 54 years. Seven participants’ narratives were analyzed by means of in-depth thematic analysis. Three central themes were examined, which include Culture, Managing life and Self-perception in answering the central questions of “What is the life satisfaction of middle-aged man in Macao?” Findings show that a good balance between life aspects and shaping an image of oneself as capable in the workplace and family are vital for middle-aged men’s life satisfaction and psychological well-being. Moreover, traditional Chinese culture is found embedded in middle-aged men’s behaviors. |
