Abstract: The analyzation about shear lag effect in a multi-span curved box girder is conducted. By combining the strain energy and external total potential energy, the displacements of the box girder are affected by deflection, moment, twisting and warping. Three governing equations based on deflection, twisting and function related to shear lag and five boundary conditions are established. A closed form solution under distributed vertical load and moment is defined. A stiffness matrix of an element is then obtained. The effect of shear lag is studied by dividing the continuous girder into smaller elements. The findings indicate that curved girders with smaller radius, less support restraints, and uniform distributed loads have reduced shear lag effects.
